Scuba diving liveaboard safaris are the must for underwater lovers. They allow you to discover the best dive spots without the rush of a daytrip, and enjoy the life onboard with your buddy divers. Nowadays, the dive boats are very spacious and comfortable and offers you all amenities to entertain yourself during the journeys between each dive place. The main destinations for scuba diving are in the north of Phuket: Similan Islands, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai, Surin Island and Richelieu Rock; and in the south: Phi Phi Islands, Koh Rok Nok, Hin Daeng and Hin Muang. Our team went to Koh Racha Yai on December 16-17, 2006.
Diving in Phuket and liveaboards in Thailand, the Andaman Sea offers dive sites considered to be among the top ten scuba destinations in the world. It boasts crystal clear water, spectacular reefs and rock formations, plus a colourful selection of marine life.
See it all in one shot on a live-aboard; the ultimate in submersion immersion. Like a floating resort where the swimming pool extends to the horizon, you won't find any comforts lacking. Modern boats whisk you to Andaman Sea dive sites while your every need is attended to. Air-conditioned cabins. Private restroom facilities. Shaded sundecks. Meals. Minibars. Movies. No detail has been forgotten, making for a truly memorable trip.
Environmentally, Thailand's diving fraternity has been a leader in coral reef protection in Southeast Asia. Many of Thailand's best dive sites have become protected under law. Over the past ten years, I personally have seen major improvements in the quality of diving at almost all regions around the country. While other areas around Southeast Asia and the rest of the world have suffered major degradation of their reefs, Thailand's government and its dive centres have instigated sound policies in controlling damage to the coral and fish populations. These policies have included educating people regarding the destruction of reefs by dynamite, mooring projects in the Similans, Koh Racha, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Samui and Koh Tao, and a strict hands-off policy for divers enjoying our undersea treasures.
As long as this positive trend continues, diving in Thailand's seas will bring pleasure, enjoyment and thrills to many people-and hopefully to their children and grandchildren as well-for years to come. You'll find Thailand's waters, islands, and culture full of life, full of wonder, and full of surprises.
For divers the true treasures of the Andaman Sea are hidden below the surface where the vast panorama explodes into a virtual symphony of colors and corals. The warm, clear nutrient rich water draws vast schools of tropical fish, manta rays, a host of other pelagic fish, and the awe inspiring Whale Shark. The diverse underwater scenery, and abundant marine life combined with good (and sometimes great) visibility will delight underwater photographers and marine naturalists. The dive sites available vary enormously and offer a full range of dive-profiles. Start with a lazy drift dive through vast gardens of coral, or try swimming through some of numerous caves and grottos, exploring a ship-wreck, or maybe embarking on a multi-level dive along a sheer granite wall with a different creature in every nook and cranny. Exotic culture, adventure both above and below the surface, unforgettable food, Phuket has all the right ingredients for a perfect diving holiday.
